Age group assigned for your lesson plan assignment

Dear students,

Please note that you can choose the age group that you will be teaching at your field practicuum.
However, elements cannot be duplicated within the group.

Rationale submission for Lesson plan assignment

hi everyone

Hope everyone had a happy christmas and working on the last bit of your assignment.....

There has been several queries on the rationale page and what to include....hope the following helps.

(1) The rationale page will be written essay style and have a maximum of 300 words including your reference. One rationale page to be submitted and it should cover both lesson plans.

(2) Explain the following :

- why did you choose the activities?
- why is it appropriate for the children (as per age group assigned)
- Why did I choose the particular activity (developemental point of view)? - cite references to support your reasonings.


Please submit the hard copy with the following sequence :
(1) Assignment Cover Page
(2) Rationale
(3) Lesson 1
(4) Lesson 2
(5) Appendix - including the 3 references

Please remember to submit the above on Hard Copy.
For Safe-assign, just submit ONE word document containing both lesson plans.

Pointers / Guides for your lesson plans assignment

Dear students....

just a couple of pointers/ guidelines to help you with your assignment.........

(1) You need NOT pick a specific theme for both of your lesson plans. If you have, it's ok too. But will not be a neccessity. Focus on the element of music or movement.

(2) Decide on only one element for each of your lesson plan. Be specific when you write. Eg. Tempo - Fast & Slow

(3) You can choose to focus on either Elements of Music for both lessons or Elements of Movement for both lessons or one of each. Up to you.

(4) Your hello and goodbye song can be the same for both lessons or different.

(5) Minimum lesson time should be at least 20 mins but do not exceed 30 mins.

(6) You need to have at least ONE objective per lesson but do not exceed TWO objectives per lesson. Make sure the objective is MEASURABLE. Do not write something like this : The children will be able to experience Fast and Slow (You can't measure "Experience")

(7) You can choose to use the template provided by Shaireen or follow the sample lesson plan format I've put up on MEL.

(8) It will be helpful if you can provide lyrics as an appendix for your lesson plan. DO NOT SUBMIT the lyrics on safe assign - only hard copy!

(9) Please ensure that your main activity adhere to your Objectives!!! And that during CLOSURE, ask questions so as to ensure that your objectives are met.

(10) Please make sure to include at least 2 questions in each section (TUNE IN, MAIN ACTIVITY, & CLOSURE)

Dateline for Submission of Assignment (Music & Movement)

Dear Students

Just a gentle reminder this Christmas on the deadline of your assignments ;-)

The submission via safe assign will be on the 30th December 2009 (Wed) before 5 pm.

The hard copy of their assignment will be submitted to the HMS office on the 4th January (Monday) 2010 before 12 pm.

All assignments will be collected from HMS that very day. I will go pick it up around 2 pm.

Changes to the Music & Movement Assignment

Dear students,

How's everything with the upcoming Music & Movement Assignment? All the readings, sample lesson plan and powerpoint slides of my lecture are up on MEL. Do feel free to email me at cayc2009@yahoo.com if you have further queries.

There has been some changes to the requirements - Both of your lesson plans need not be theme related. Means you just need to focus on the Elements of either Music or Movement. ;-) Just make sure that it is age appropriate for the age intended for.

I will be keeping you posted on some clarifications on the elements of Music and Movement in the next few days (both on MEL and Blog).

Video assignment

Hello everyone,

I think everyone is so excited about showcasing their video! I am looking forward to it too.

Please save it on a disc that can be played in the DVD player. I will suggest you have a back up in a thumb drive just in case and be ready to submit it in case the disc does not play.

Everthing must be labelled BEFORE you come to class.. not IN the class please.

I will have the pizza party after the video session just in case some of the videos cause 'motion sickness' which might result in some queasy tummies and unfortunate events . :)

Please bring your cameras as you might want to take photos of the art exhibition too.

I will need you to do your peer evaluation in class as well.

HELLO!!! Music & Movement Time!!!

hi everyone!

I'm very excited as I will be meeting everyone for the first time tomorrow for lecture!

Please dress in comfortable clothings (NO skirts for the girls!) as there will be lots of movement during lecture!

Hopefully you have done some research on possible songs/ rhymes to be included in your next lesson plan assignment! I will be going through with you on your next assignment and do come prepared with any questions...will be happy to help in any way!!! ;-)

Video submission

Hello everyone!

Just to clarify some points about the video :

1. Please make sure I am able to see use of creative movement ( dance or movement related segments), drama ( your acting) and visual arts ( either use of any artwork, yours or others). These elements must be integrated into the plot of your story. This means I can see you using it and it contributes effectively to the storyline. If you use it but it makes no sense or I don't understand the significance then you should think about using that shot again.

2. In your rationale,you should also be able to explain what made you use those movements/art pieces and how you think it helps in depicting your story.

Example : We decided to use mime in the 3rd act because we felt that it would contribute to the weight and seriousness of the emotion.It reflects the sense of loss that the girl goes through after she loses her confidence.

You do not need to have any reference for the rationale. However, I would like you to submit your final script for my reference.Please submit this in the file, insert in this order : cover page, rationale, script. Your scripts are not marked, it is only for my reference so no standard format is imposed.

3. Please submit your video on a CD with a CD case . Your CD must be labeled. We will view it in class during our last tutorial. Let's have a great time watching your very exciting production!

4. I will also require you to do a peer evaluation. Once I have it cleared I will announce it on the blog.

Wk 7 Tutorial

Hi everyone! I am going to make some changes to the tutorial this week. Initially,I had planned the Art exhibition for Wk 7 and Video Week for Wk 8.However, I am a little worried about your next round of lesson plans and I'd like to spend some time covering some integrated drama, creative movement and music activities... just so you have some ideas for your next assignment.

As such please bring the following pieces : Jewel box, frame, Cd sleeve to class THIS Thur 3rd(/Fri 4th and submit it to me. Bring the playdough sculpture NEXT week in Wk 8 Tutorial.

We will have a farewell party in Wk 8 that will combine the Art exhibition and the Video session. That way we maximise the little time we have left. I will also be putting up some guidelines for the video tomorrow.Please look out for it. Take care meawhile!- Shai
