Lesson plans

Hi everyone,

I know some of you are waiting for my feedback on your lesson plans as you have implementations this week. As mentioned you are not to do major changes to the lesson plan so please submit your current lesson plan to the mentor if they need a lesson plan in advance. Just alert them that you might do minor changes to it once you receive the marked copy from me on Tuesday.I have thought about it but even if I were to give you feedback via email it will be important for you to have the lesson plan back to understand what I am talking about.So let's be efficient about it.

Briefly,most cases points were lost on the rationale and writing.Ideas may be okay but some too simple or too difficult.I will discuss the points in the lecture.

I have marked some which need to be changed but it is only fair that I talk to you about it when I meet you on Thursday.The grades range from A+ to Ds.. so no failures.. do not worry. I understand it is your first time to do lesson plans but expectations should be higher for the next one okay?There were some real gems among the lot and I was happy to see most of you making the effort in your work. Keep at it !

White hair increasing

Hello my young ones. Sigh.. my white hair in increasing by the minute with all your creative exploits uploading your materials on Safe Assign... sigh. You make my life sooo excitinggg.. sighhh. LOL.

Listen, you need to save both lesson plans on ONE FILE okay? It will not allow you to upload twice. For those who did .... sigh...I will have to create another file called VISUAL ARTS BB for you to upload again.. You know what the 'BB' stands for.. ? :) LOL

I think I have to colour my hair after 10 weeks with you lot. :) But seriously.. having a ball of a time with you. Already sad that it is coming to an end. Make the moments memorable for yourselves okay?

Plagiarism Pandemonium

Hello everyone!

Before all of you go ballistic with the alarming plagiarism percentages, let me explain. The system picks up common phrases so.. yeah.. I will have to re-process them cos it picks up the headers, the questions etc.. so I'll have a look at it. Don't worry :) .Your energy is better used on working on your other assignments, not worrying about this okay? If I find the work needs redoing I will get back to you by Sunday. Relax ...my young ones..chilllll :)

SAFE ASSIGN UPLOAD and assignments

Hi everyone,

I have created the Safe Assign link under ASSIGNMENTS. Please upload your lesson plans minus the rationale, reference and appendix by Sun 30th, 10 am.

I will also need to do some moderation of your assignments and check it with the SAFE ASSIGN for plagiarism before I return it to you.As such I will return it to you at the lecture next Tuesday 1st December. This is to avoid complication should the plagiarism percentage be high.

If your practicum falls on the first week (between 30th to 4th Dec) , please let me know by email by the end of 24th Nov lecture.I will advise you by email about your lesson plan to enable you to make changes if necessary.

My apologies for the change. Let's get on to the video assignment next!

Lecture on 24th as per normal

Hi everyone,

There were some queries about the lecture on Tuesday. It is as per normal 2- 4 pm. Jason will be coming in to observe me teaching that's all.

After discussion with your reps, I will stay on Thursday 26th 4-5 pm to return E04/E05 assignments to those who want it back this week. I understand some of you may be having your observations in the first week and need to make the preparations.

If you are not there to collect it on Thursday I will return it to you on Tuesday 1st Dec after lecture since you are not in a hurry to get it back. Those coming back on Thursday will need to write their name on the list so I am not waiting for you in vain.

That will be fair to all I believe. :)

Lecture on 24th

Hi everyone, I planned to return the assignments to you on the lecture in wk 6. However, I will be having an observation that day and need to make some changes. As such I will be returning 01,02,03 assignments in tutorial on Thursday. 04 and 05 I need to arrange a time for you to pick it up from me on Thursday. I will need about 15 min with each class. I am arranging with Lycia and Amanda at present.

04 and 05, I will be arranging the make up tutorial for you via MEL. More details on that soon.

Hi everyone,

Still no word on the Safe assign , so just wait till further notice. Hope you have all submitted your discussion postings.

Safe assign not enabled

Hi everyone, just an update. It seems they have changed the system for the safe assign so I will have to wait for Sze Hui to get back to me about it. I will extend the deadline to Friday 20th at present. Continue to refer to the blog for updates. Take care and enjoy your Red Camp week!

How to upload to SAFE ASSIGN

Hello all my panicky students... relaxxxx... :) This were the instructions given to me. It should work , if it doesn't don't worry...NO PENALTY.. anyway I have your hard copy right?So this is what you do:

1.Go to your CREATIVE ARTS page.
2. You will see on the left side the table that states Learning Materials, Course Documents etc etc.NOW..... look further down ... you will see another table that says 'Control Panel' and under that it says ' COURSE TOOLS". Click on that.
3. Scroll down till you see SAFE ASSIGN. Click on that
4. You will see two options, click on th 'DIRECT SUBMIT"
5. You will see the 'Visual arts folder'. Submit to that folder.

If still doesn't work , no worries.. it's not the end of the world.. just wait for my next update on the blog. Don't worry... BUT hard copies MUST be in tomorrow.. for that... NO EXCUSE okay? :)

Comments and Lesson ideas

Hi everyone,

I've advised quite a few of you on your Lesson plans.Very happy to read through it. Well done! I am glad you are all very serious about your work. Keep going! Great that you are thinking about visual arts the right way. Get creative and think about your ideas.

I have changed the settings on the blog as I realised you could not comment on it. Hope its okay now.

I also understand that you will be having a LAEYC lecture on Tue 11-1. So no one will be coming at that time.. In that case I'll be there from 12 onwards okay. :)

In the meantime, if your email has not been answered, could you send it to me again please? Just write your idea in the main message, no need for attachment so I can reply quickly by tomorrow so less of you need to see me on Tuesday.

You can print out a copy and bring it along with you but I will use it for reference only if necessary.That will be all that I am doing. I am happy to see that you are trying out simple and refreshing ideas. Keep it up!

Rationale Page

Hi everyone, I've had a few queries about the rationale page so let me explain here .

What?
The rationale page must be written essay style (usual typing format applies) and have a max of 300 words (including references) with 3 references. Only one rationale page is needed to cover the two lesson plans. Simpllleee right?:)

The rationale should explain the following
1. Why did I choose the activities ( and it better not be 'because Shai suggested it!!')
2. Why is it appropriate for the children in my class( any issue with interest, ability, etc)
3. How do I know it is a good activity to conduct from a developmental point of view (ie. cite references)

How?
Type the rationale in paragraph form. Insert your 3 references at the end of it.. (APA guidelines!!)

Where?
Place the rational page before Lesson plan 1 so the sequence of your document should be

1. Assignment Cover page
2. Rationale
3.Lesson plan 1
4. Lesson plan 2
5. Appendix

I will only expect to read the rationale when I am marking it. Hand in your assignments in class during your Tutorial next week. I will collect all assignments in the first 30 mins of the tutorial. You will have to see me to explain if you are not in class by then. Do not give me excuses such as..' my printer was not working , so and so is printing it for me etc' . Print it the day before not the night before.

Hello everyone! Just a quick reminder. You do have a rationale page (300 words) that you have to submit with your lesson plans. Please refer to the assignment related documents for details . Please remember. I will only advise on your ideas for the lesson plan though.Happy writing! :)

Week 3 Tutorial

Hi everyone,

I have uploaded the template for your lesson plate on MEL and the powerpoint for lecture 3. The video will be uploaded on my personal page on Facebook. You can click to 'Share' from there.

I am happy to see that some of you have started on your ideas for the lesson plan. Great work! For those who haven't please email me your ideas by 10pm on the evening before your tutorials this week. I will have a look at it then. That will save a lot of time .

I will reserve the last 15 min of your tutorial to entertain your queries this week. Please type out your ideas, I will not entertain it if you do not write it down.

Your last chance for feedback will be before next week's lecture on Tue 10th Nov. I will come down 2 hours earlier so you can see me from 12 - 2 before the lecture. I will have to stop giving feedback by 1.45. So do come early.

My brain is yours to pick, so do come quick.:)

Remember to bring your playdough and natural materials this tutorial. Bring your cameras too. We will have fun.
